Fire And Rescue Department Sports
Meet

Begawan - The Fire and Rescue Department's third Sports meet
took place yesterday at the Track and Field of the Fire and Rescue
Department, Old Airport.
Present to officiate the sports
meet that served to strengthen ties among the teams involving
officers and personnel, was the Director of Fire and Rescue Awg
Yahya Hj Abd Rahman.
The sports meet was also aimed at
scouting for potential players who could represent the department at
sports meets either organised by the ministries or government
departments and as a preparation for the Fire and Rescue Borneo
Sports meet next year in Sarawak.
Events competed at the sports meet
included football, sepak takraw, badminton, volleyball, table
tennis, tug-of-war, netball and marathon and this year's sports meet
was participated by all divisions throughout the nation including
the headquarters, female Fire and Rescue personnel and civilian
staff of the department.
Yesterday's Sports meet began with
the march past of the 11 teams accompanied by the Fire and Rescue
band. A welcoming speech by the chairman
of the event was followed by the opening speech by the chief guest,
who drew the draw for the teams participating in the football event.
The chairman in his speech said the
sports meet serves to nurture a sports culture, encourage healthy
living, build spirit, inculcate understanding and teamwork and that
their active involvement will contribute to the activeness of all
levels at the department, making personnel ready to provide
professional and effective services to the public in line with the
