Concerns About TAP Addressed
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Some 300 officers and representatives of various
ministries and departments attended here yesterday the fourth
briefing on acts and regulations on the Employees Trust Fund (TAP).
The briefing, held at the Theatre
Hall of the Ministry of Finance, is part of the efforts to raise
awareness on the subject.
The event also aimed to give the
audience an opportunity to voice out their concerns with the Tap
officers during the Question and Answer session.
Yusof
Hj Abd Rahman, the managing director of TAP, began the proceedings
with his opening remarks.
He said that TAP had been holding
holding activities such as inspections to business premises, in
order to safeguard the employees' well-being and to ensure that
employers were complying with the laws set out by the trust fund.
"Alhamdullilah, through these
activities... since March 31, 2008, the total of TAP applicants rose
by as much as
8.02 per cent to 97,651 from 90,405
in the previous year," stated the managing director.
Since the visits to these premises
was initiated in June 2007, it was also reported that the number of
applicants had increased from 447 per month to as many as 604
applicants per month, which represented a rise of five per cent over
the year.
The number of employers registering
to TAP also increased by seven per cent for the 2007-2008 session,
where in real figures, this was equivalent to 8,135 to 8,674
employers registering to the trust fund.
Yusof
also urged for the ministries and departments to update TAP with any
changes made, regarding their employees and their wages.
This ensured that TAP was able to
carry out its duties towards the public efficiently.
A presentation was then shown by
the trust fund's senior labour inspector, Pg Shahrom Pg Hj Ismail,
which highlighted the appropriate procedures to filling out the TAP
registration forms.
The TAP scheme was inaugurated on
January 1, 1993 to government officers and other civil servants,
including those who were on probation, had daily wages and
contracts, in the Pension Services.
The scheme was then introduced to
the private sector in 1994.
This year tap will celebrate its
15th anniversary, which had been planned to be held on June 30,
2008. (ODM1) -- Courtesy of
