Budget Roadshow At MIPR

Begawan - The 2008/2009 Budget Roadshow held at the Ministry
of Industry and Primary Resources was the second in a series of road
shows that will be held by the Ministry of Finance.
The first roadshow was held at the
Legislative Council building on May 7 for departments under the
Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of
Home Affairs and the Ministry of Development. The first road show
was co-organised with the Prime Minister's Office, dedicated for the
Permanent Secretaries and the Deputies, Directors and Senior
Officers at the departments under the Prime Minister 's Office,
Ministry of Development, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of
Religious Affairs. Awg Hj Bahrin bin Abdullah, Permanent Secretary
at the Ministry of Finance emphasised on the importance of saving up
in expenditures because the nation relies heavily on incomes from
the oil and gas which are not infinite. He also urged all government
departments to collect government revenues when they are due.
In the event, Awg Hj Nazmi bin Hj
Mohamad, Acting Director of Budgets, gave briefing related to the
2008/2009 budget, which among other things, touched on the
challenges in preparing the annual allocation and steps to improve
those that have been implemented and those that will be implemented.
The objectives of the road show
yesterday are to share the objectives of the 2008/2009 national
budget; the challenges, opportunities and issue those surfaces in
public finance management; as well as the budget allocation prepared
by the government for the financial year 2008/2009.
Besides that, the road show also
gave opportunities for shared discussion on problems that could
surface in managing a department's financial affairs.
The road show was followed by a
workshop with the aim to raise officers' and staffs' skills in
