RBAF’s Kind Gesture To SMARTER

Begawan - Excitement filled the air yesterday when children
with autistic disabilities at SMARTER viewed the new playroom at the
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) centre in Sengkurong.
The Combat Engineering Squadron of
the Support Battalion Royal Brunei Land Forces (RBLF) had sent a
field troop to build an extension to the internal playground for
children at the centre.
The worthy cause was another
'Titian Amal' community service project endeavoured by the Royal
Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) to commemorate the upcoming Royal Brunei
Armed Forces (RBAF) 47th Anniversary celebration.
It was also a charitable act to
mark the Royal Brunei Armed Forces' commitment towards the welfare
of the community and residents of Brunei Darussalam.
Construction of the playroom began
on April 1 and was completed on April 18, with the hard work of 20
personnel from the Combat Engineering Squadron, Support Battalion
Royal Brunei Land Forces (RBLF). It was the 14'" Ttitian Amal
charity service project since its formation in 1994.
The basic cost for implementing the
project was estimated at $4,782.30, which was funded by the SMARTER
Association, while other necessary factors in the form of manpower,
machinery and skills were generously contributed by the Engineering
Squadron of the Support Battalion Royal Brunei Land Forces (RBLF).
The new playroom area can
accommodate up to 60 children, assistant staff and teaching staff,
with various playground sets available for the children.
The official handover of the
'Titian Amal' project was held yesterday at the ASD Centre in
Sengkurong.
Present as the guest of honour was
the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health cum Advisor of
SMARTER Association, Dato Paduka Awg Serbini bin Haji Ali.
Also present was Colonel Pg Dato
Paduka Hj Azmansham bin Pg Haji Mohamad @Mohamed, Commandant of
Support Services, Royal Brunei Armed Forces and the president of
SMARTER Association, Malai Hj Abdullah bin Malai Hj Othman.
According to the project
coordinator, Captain Mohd Salleh bin Haji Ismail, the 'Titian Amal'
project was previously known as `Jiwa Murni' until 1996.
In the context of 'Titian Amal', it
brings a broad meaning to efforts in the spirit of teamwork and in
this case, connecting the Royal Brunei Armed Forces with the general
public through charity works.
This year alone, various 'Titian
Amal' projects have been planned and will be launched according to
the capabilities of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces in supporting the
aspirations of the government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang
Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam to offer help to those who are
in need.
The Royal Brunei Armed Forces hopes
that these efforts can assist parents of children suffering from
autism to nurture their children monitor their development to ensure
