PSJD Lauded On Golden Jubilee
For Vital Contributions
By Yuzrin Junaidi & Lyna Mohamad
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The development of a country is not only generated
or achieved through programmes organised by its governmental
institutions, but also through the participation of NGOs, said the
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
|
Pehin Dato Seri Pahlawan Hj Mohammad
Hj Daud highlighted this at the Golden Jubilee celebration of
the Pakatan Sang Jati Dusun and Adau Gayoh (PSJD), which he
officiated yesterday at the ICC.
He added that the association
has also played its role in the community by organising various
activities that are beneficial for its members.
As one of the seven ethnic
groups that add colours to the Sultanate's landscape, the
richness of its language and traditions should be maintained
according to this year's Adau Gayoh theme - "Memperkayakan
Budaya, Memperkasakan Bangsa" (Enriching Culture, Empowering
Nation).
With such strong efforts and
commitment from the Dusun community, its unique identity will
not only be advantageous for |

the community, but also to the whole
country as a national heritage treasure.
The minister congratulated PSJD,
which was established in 1958, and acknowledged its leadership,
while applauding its three founders, whose vision and
initiatives have made it all possible. |
He also expressed hopes that among
others, leaders would ensure more youths could be involved through
PSJD in voluntary works, such as for the National Day celebration,
in line with the Wawasan 2035 Brunei.
He also mentioned calls by world
bodies like Unesco that serve to promote awareness on the importance
of safeguarding the cultural heritage of a nation.
Among the world's six billion
people, there are 6,800 languages or dialects spoken in various
countries and regions, but many are facing the threat of extinction
every day.
He therefore called on all ethnic
groups, including the Dusun community, to be more proactive and come
up with strategic steps to safeguard their language, culture and
traditions.
At yesterday's event, PSJD
contributed $500 each for the Brunei Darussalam Disabled People Fund
and the National Orphans Fund, which was presented to the minister,
who then handed it over to Japem Director Datin Hjh Adinah Hj
Othman.
Certificates of recognition and
appreciation were also presented as well as several colourful
performances from various villages and an exhibition on the Heritage
Culture of the Dusun Community. -- Courtesy
