Free SIM Card Upgrades At Go! Launch
By Hadi DP Mahmud

Bandar Seri Begawan – Data Stream Technology (DST) launched its new GO! Broadband service yesterday amid much fanfare as crowds thronged to a packed Indera Kayangan Ballroom at the Empire Hotel and Country, Club to catch a glimpse of DST's latest offering, the new 3.5G broadband service.

The launch was officiated by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.

While the new service itself received a "positive response", as described by ' a DST spokesperson, the large turnout could also be attributed to existing customers who queued up to take advantage of free SIM card upgrades at makeshift counters set up in the ballroom following the launch.

"I can't wait to go home and try it out," said an excited Siti Dayana Abdul Wahab, holding out a brand-new white Apple Macbook that came with a $300 modem and a basic plan.

"I know it's too much, but I also bought the modem for B-mobile's broadband service. I'll try it out for the next few months and see which one's better," said the undergraduate.

DST's GO! Broadband comes in two packages - a basic plan at $38 a month or an unlimited, contract-based plan at $78 per month. The basic plan allows users to send and receive data up to 2 gigabytes a month. Once the quota is exceeded, DST will charge customers until the out standing balance reaches $88. After that, users have unlimited access to data service.

Customers can choose either a modem or a combination of a laptop and a modem with both plans.

"Most of the customers were interested in our broadband packages," said a DST spokesperson who declined to be named. "We look forward to seeing more customers tomorrow at the Jerudong Park Ampitheatre."

DST will be holding a threeday roadshow beginning today at the Jerudong Park Ampitheatre, which will feature magic and game shows, a fireworks display and a lucky draw.

DST's new 3G network, deployed by Swedish telecommunications supplier Ericsson in November last year, allows users to enjoy download speeds of up to 7.2 megabytes per second. Users will also have access to a bigger range of media-rich broadband services such as video telephony, music and video entertainment, mobile TV streaming via their mobile devices as well as mobile broadband Internet access using modems.

Existing Prima and Easi subscribers have until May 30 to upgrade their SIM cards for free at DST Group outlets nationwide. A $10 fee will be charged for those who upgrade after this date. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
