Automated Counters for All Post Office Branches From June 1
By Za'im Zaini & Amin Hosni

Bandar Seri Begawan - From June 1 onwards, all 24 post office branches in the country will have automated counters.

With the new system, work will be more efficient, and the public can also pay their bills at these counters. The Postal Department plans to offer more payment services in future.

This was revealed by Post Master General Hj Abd Kadir bin Tengah who was speaking on the sidelines of a briefing on insurance cover for postmen by Takaful Insurance IBB yesterday.

Hj Abd Kadir said that it was important for postmen to be covered by insurance as they are exposed to various kinds of hazards. He pointed out that the insurance is affordable, as they are offered at special rates.

According to Hjh Hammah bte Puasa, the head of Delivery Unit, five accidents involving postmen occur each year. Aside from keeping an eye out for errant motorists, the postmen also encounter other problems such as unchained dogs and houses that do not have mailboxes.

Some 179 people comprising Postal Department staff and those involved in mail processing attended the briefing.

The talk was facilitated by officers from Takaful IBB Bhd namely Roslan Md Tahir, Hj Hussin bin Hj Sulaiman, Mohd Fuad Hamdi PD Hj Salim and Mohd Basri Hj Basir.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
