US Navy Power For Demolition Work

Begawan - Thirteen US Navy personnel from the USS Chung Hoon
yesterday continued with their community relations project after
their success in building a playground at Pusat Bahagia just two
days ago.
Yesterday, the group of US Navy
crewmembers demolished an old house in Kg- Menengah in the Tutong
District, working side-by-side with the local villagers of Kampung
Menengah to help a single mother of nine, Dayang Sahi binti Talip.
Upon arrival, the crew was welcomed
by Kg Menengah's Head of Village, Hj Roslee bin Hj Ahad, the
Penghulu, Hj Yusof bin Mantok, along with officials from the Tutong
District Office.
Also present to assist in the
demolition of the house were officials from the Community
Development Department. In total, more than 50 people lent a hand in
demolishing Dayang Sahi's old house.
She is a recipient of welfare
allowance from JAPEM, and with this assistance she started an
agriculture project which has flourished into a successful business.
USS Chung Hoon is a Hawaii-based
navy ship berthed at Muara Port since May 19. The ship is commanded
by CMDR James Aiken.
USS Chung Hoon is "home ported" at
Pearl Harbour, Hawaii and has been conducting routine operations in
the Western Pacific as part of the US Seventh Fleet.
The USS Chung Hoon is named after
Rear Admiral Chung-Hoon, a recipient of the Navy Cross and Silver
Star for "conspicuous bravery and extraordinary heroism" as
commanding officer of the USS Sigsbee (DD 502) from May 1944 to
October 1945.
After retiring from the Navy in
1959, Rear Admiral Chung Hoon was appointed by William Quinn,
Hawaii's first elected governor since statehood, to serve as
director of the state Department of Agriculture.
The navy ship is departing the
country today and will be heading to the Persian Gulf for its next
