Eleven Arrested For Gambling

Bandar Seri Begawan - Eleven locals including two women were arrested by the police in connection with three gambling cases involving the illegal four-digit lottery and 'Ketam-Ketam', recently.

The police also recorded nine assault cases, where seven locals were detained, and one case of `smashing a sliding window'. One fake police report was also made, whereby under Section 177 of the Penal Code, the offender could be sentenced to six months' imprisonment, or a B$4,000 fine, or both.

Two misuse of drugs cases were reported last week, leading to the arrest of nine men in their 40s. Also reported were five customs cases (four foreign men arrested), two immigration cases (eight foreigners detained), one suspected suicide, one case of trespassing, one case of demoralising, a threatening case, one Labour Act violation, one `unsound man' case, one runaway worker and one fraud case.

One case of receiving two obscene letters from unidentified men, two Fisheries Act violations, two cases of unpaid wages, one case of arson and one of impersonation as a government officer' were also reported.

Meanwhile a missing car, a Toyota Tercel that was parked near the Arts and Handicrafts Training Centre at Jln Kota Batu, has not been recovered.

Three theft cases were reported to have taken place at the reading room of SOAS College, stalls in Kg MataMata and another location in Kg Sungai Hanching in which a TV set, a DVD player, two Gameboys and a `Grand Theft Auto' video game were reported missing. Meanwhile, the police managed to apprehend five men linked to four theft cases over the past week.

Three houses were burgled in Kg Madewa and Simpang 194 and 409 in Jln Maulana, Kuala Belait. Items lost were seven to 10 pieces of US$100 notes, a Canon camera, a video camcorder, seven camera lenses, a DVD player and a silver ring.

On the road, 20 car crashes and 13 self-accidents - with three people sustaining minor injuries - were also reported last week.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
