Tungku Primary School Contributes
To Billion Tree Campaign

Begawan - Tungku Primary School yesterday held a Billion Tree
Campaign in its effort to raise awareness on the importance of trees
in all cultures and how forests provide environmental protection.
Teachers, children and some parents
brought tree saplings and flower seedlings to be planted in the
school compound. Some parents also took part in the cleaning
campaign.
The Billion Tree Campaign was part
of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) major global
tree-planting campaign to encourage people, businesses and
governments to enter tree-planting pledges online. The objective is
to plant at least one billion trees worldwide in 2007.
The idea for the Plant for the
Planet: Billion Tree Campaign was inspired by Professor Wangari
Maathai, Nobel Peace Prize laureate in 2004 and founder of Kenya
8217's Green Belt Movement, which has planted more than 30 million
trees in 12 African countries since 1977. The pledges can be made at
