Chef holds chocolate demonstration
By Huraizah Ahmad

Chef shows basic chocolate making
skills.
Chef David Laris, renowned chocolate
connoisseur, shared some of his chocolate culinary skills with the
audience on Wednesday at the Empire Hotel & Country Club.
A limited number of participants
observed and learned basic chocolate culinary skills from the
chocolatier who created a number of delights, including raspberry
chocolate, dark chocolate mousse, jasmine chocolate and truffle.
"Making chocolate treats strongly
relies on precision and accuracy of recipes which is different from
culinary cooking that relies on the senses of feeling and taste,"
Laris said.
A second David Laris chocolate
demonstration will be featured on May 4 from 2pm to 5pm.
Australian born Laris is the
executive chef of Mezzo, one of Europe's largest restaurants and
Conran's flagship in Soho. He is responsible for a team of over 50
chefs, two restaurants, private dining room and cafe.
The chocolatier, is also founder and
chef proprietor of Laris Restaurant at Three on the Bund, his first
signature restaurant in Shanghai that brings true passion and flair to
the established New World dining philosophy and style.
'Laris,' which opened last year, has
won numerous plaudits including nomination for Conde Nast Traveler's
'80 Hot Tables 2005', and Best Restaurant of the Year for Readers
Choice Awards, Best Restaurants by Shanghai Tatler.
