Philippine Dance Company Set To
Perform In Brunei

Begawan - The Bayanihan Philippine Dance Company, the country's
top national dance company, will perform in Brunei next month to
celebrate the 107th anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine
Independence.
It will perform at the Philippine
International Convention Centre on June 14, during the Philippine
Independence Diplomatic Reception hosted by the Philippine Embassy.
In cooperation with the Ministry of
Culture, Youth and Sports, another cultural performance, open to all
members of the public, will be held on June 15 at the International
Convention Centre (IC C), the Philippine Embassy said yesterday.
A one-day Filipino food festival, in
conjunction with the Philippine Independence Day celebrations, will be
held on June 13 at the Holiday Lodge Hotel, it added.
The Bayanihan, since its inception in
1957, has, performed in six continents, 62 countries and 493 cities
worldwide.
The Bayanihan bested all previous
Gold Temple Awardees at the 50th International Folklore Festival held
in Sicily, Italy last February this year.
It won the Gold Temple Award for
overall excellence in dance, music, costume and production at the 47th
International Folklore Festival in Agrigento, Sicily, in 2003.
Bayanihan
had won many `firsts" such as the first Filipino group to break into
Broadway and the first non-American dance company to perform at the
New York State Theatre of the Lincoln Centre for the Performing Arts.
Bayanihan
is the only Filipino dance company to receive the prestigious and
Asia's equivalent to the Nobel Prize, the Ramon Magsaysay Award for
international understanding.
It was the first to make an in-depth
tour of South America and the first Filipino dance company to perform
at the World Showcase Millennium Village EPCOT, Disneyworld, Florida,
United States. --
