Three Kampongs Under Royal Scrutiny

Bandar Seri Begawan - His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam made a surprise visit to Kg Tanah Jambu, Kg Mentiri and Kg Batu Marang in the Brunei-Muara District yesterday.

The visit was part of a series of visits by His Majesty to various parts of the country to view the developments.

The places that were visited by the monarch included two schools and a community centre.

His Majesty arrived at Kg Tanah Jambu in a helicopter at about 8.30 am and proceeded to Sekolah Rendah Tanah Jambu. The school currently with 140 students was built in 1961.

Shortly after touring the school, His Majesty went to Kg Mentiri where the ruler visited its community centre and commercial complex. It is one of the many community centres the government of His Majesty had built for the use of villagers in the kampong areas.

The Kg Mentiri Community Centre also has a commercial complex. Although it can accommodate more shops, there are only three businesses running at the complex.

His Majesty then visited the Sekolah Menengah Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja, Kg Mentiri. Some of the students and teachers at the school were certainly caught by surprise when the monarch arrived. The school currently has more than 1,500 students.

The Sultan toured various parts of the school and mingled with the students and teachers.

His Majesty took a closer look at the teaching equipment and classes at the school. The visit included a tour to the computer room, administration block, library and other classes.-

From the school, he then went to the Civil Service Club and the Pantai Mentiri Golf Club. The Civil Service Club has about 2,000 members mostly comprising of government officers.

The monarch then went to Kg Batu Marang, where the ruler visited a surau. The Sekolah Rendah Batu Marang also came under the royal scrutiny. His Majesty toured the classes, administration room and kitchen in the school.

His Majesty's visit drew the attention of the villagers who were surprised to see the monarch. He mingled with some of the residents who came to greet him. Kg Batu Marang has a population of more than 1,600 people.

The Sultan then made a stopover at the house of Pengarah Hj Abd Rahman bin Hj Naim, Penghulu of Mukim Mentiri, before ending the visit.
