Japanese Anime Films To Be
Screened At Empire, Nursing College

Begawan - Bruneians are to be given a fantastic opportunity to
view a wide variety of Japanese anime films.
As part of ASEAN-Japan Exchange year
2003, famous Japanese anime films will be screened at the Bruneian
Nursing College, May 30 - June 15, and the Empire Cinema, May 31 -
June 1.
Mr Hara Satoshi, Ambassador of Japan,
will host a special viewing and reception at the Empire Cinema on
Sunday, June 1, at 9.30am to mark the occasion.
Prince Abdul Qawi will attend as
Guest of Honour.
Bruneians will be given the chance to
view seven different anime films.
These anime films include the widely
renowned work of Tezuka Osamu, who is hailed as the founding father of
the anime world and whose most famous works have become cultural icons
in Japan.
Titles to look out for by this artist
include the anime masterpiece 'Astro Boy' and 'Pictures at an
Exhibition'. Other movies to be screened are the fantastic story
'Galaxy Express 999,' the dramatic story adventure story 'The Dagger
of Kemui', 'The Prince of the Sun' designed by Miyazaki Hayao, the
complex love story 'The White Snake', and 'Home of Acorns' which tells
the story of one woman's courage and determination to over come the
restraints of a mental disability.
In 1914, cartoonists were among the
first Japanese artists to experiment with animated motion pictures and
from there the industry began to grow.
Anime has become an immensely popular
pastime for many Japanese. Its influences, such as artwork and
collectible characters, are apparent in many aspects of daily life in
Japan.
Today, anime has millions of fans
around the world and its popularity continues to grow.
People worldwide, from all genres and
groups are developing a keen interest in anime film production.
Taking place during ASEAN-Japan
Exchange Year 2003, the Anime Film Festival is sure to be an inspiring
and enlightening event.
It will provide Bruneians with
another great opportunity to embrace an important aspect of Japanese
culture, further strengthening the bonds and developing understanding
between Brunei and Japan.
The Film Festival is being organised
by the Embassy of Japan in cooperation With the Japan Foundation.
