Japanese Envoy Says Market Brunei
Worldwide
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Bruneians must continue with the marketing of Brunei,
not only in Japan but worldwide.
Japanese Ambassador, His Excellency
Satoshi Hara said this at the Seminar on Japanese Tourism yesterday.
He said, Brunei with its abundance of
Flora and Fauna, should further the ecotourism practice and planning
of ecotours.
"This, however, needs to
establish concept in tourism which does not harm the natural
environment, ecological system and endangered culture," he added.
He also said that more cottage
industries should be considered, to increase the revenues from these
travellers, especially the Japanese who are known to be big spenders.
The ambassador further warned that
the local Trade and Travel Industry should expect fierce competition.
According to figures obtained by RTB
news, the number of Japanese tourists to Brunei has declined.
Mr. Fumihiro Sakakibara, facilitator
at the seminar, said that one of the probable causes of this decline
could be attributed to the slump in the Japanese economy.
He also said that the entire Travel
Industry is now exhausted and lacks promotional funds. But he pointed
out that Brunei is in a unique position as it has the ability to
increase the number of tourists. -- Courtesy
