More PRs Get Higher Education In
Brunei
Bandar Seri
Begawan - More permanent residents have obtained degrees and
other higher qualifications in the Sultanate since 1992.
Statistics of the Economic Planning
and Development Department showed that the number now stands at 11,159
or 4.18 per cent to 29,700 or 8.71 per cent.
Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Latif ,
special duties officer at the Ministry of Education, disclosed this
yesterday at the presentation of certificates to last year's school
leavers of the Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Boy Secondary School.
He said, the number is still
insignificant compared to the country's total population of 350,000.
The Ministry of Education, he added,
has and is in the process of increasing the number of highly qualified
residents parallel to the needs of the nation, envisioning a rise of
more than 25 per cent of the country's total population and be at par
with other developing nations.
Doctor Haji Latif believes such an
objective could be achieved with the existence of students who want to
succeed.
A total of 136 students were awarded
with High Religious Certificate of Education. They were students of
the 2001 to 2002 sessions who obtained Makbul grade in the Brunei
Higher Religious Certificate of Education, a success showing of 91.9
per cent, or an increase of 1.3 per cent compared to the year 2001.
Twenty-six students obtained the
grade Muntaz, 14 in Jayyid Jiddan, 54 Jayyid and 40 others in Makbul
grade.

Dayang Ashfakhzarainie was adjudged
