Prince Spells Out Brunei's Concern On Middle East Situation

Tehran - Brunei's Foreign Affairs Minister, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah has expressed Brunei's concerns on the situation in Iraq, the state of Middle East peace progress and the role of the United Nations and other multilateral bodies in the future conduct of international affairs.

His Royal Highness made the address during the afternoon session on the first day of the 30th Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in Tehran, Iran.

During the course of his address, His Royal Highness conveyed Brunei's condolences to bereaved families in Algeria following the recent earthquake and the victims of terrorist attacks in Saudi Arabia and Morocco.

In his address, His Royal Highness stressed that Brunei shares the concerns felt by Muslims all over the world not only with fellow members of the OIC, but also with the partners in every organisation to which Brunei belongs.

Touching on the current efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East, His Royal Highness said Brunei continues to respect the integrity of the United Nations (UN) Security Council resolutions on Palestine.

In this regard, His Royal Highness hopes that current moves to reactivate the peace process have these as their ultimate objective.

Meanwhile, prior to delivering the address, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah had informal meetings with his counterparts from the OIC member nations.

Among them were the Malaysian Foreign Minster, Datuk Syed Hamid Albar and the Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda.

Later in the evening, His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Zariah attended a dinner hosted by the Iranian Foreign Minister, Syed Kamal Kharazzi in honour of the visiting OIC members. -- Courtesy of Radio Telivision Brunei
