Crown Prince Calls ITB, UBD
'Sources Of Specialists'

Billah said Brunei Institute of Technology (ITB) and Universiti Brunei
Darussalam (UBD) should be acknowledged as sources of specialists for
relevant development initiatives.
In his royal message at the 12th ITB
Convocation at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas
yesterday, the Crown Prince said UBD and IBT should not only be
regarded as agencies that produce highly qualified human resources.
Upon arrival at the ICC, the
Education Minister Pehin Dato Awang Haji Abdul Aziz and the executive
committee of the ceremony greeted the Crown Prince.
Also present was His Royal Highness
Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah.
The function began with the
recitation of verses from the Holy Quran.
In his welcoming address, the ITB
Director Awang Haji Mohd Yusra said early this year ITB and Brunei
Shell have jointly worked on the development of energy efficient house
using solar energy.
The Crown Prince also said the
involvement of local specialists would give huge benefits to the
country.
He added, if local expertise is
combined with foreign consultants the result would be more relevant in
dimensions to the development project.
Touching on the institute's plans to
run parallel programmes with other foreign higher institutions, the
Crown Prince said these efforts are necessary to develop the institute
as a centre of human resource development.
The Crown Prince then consented to
award diploma of the 16th intake to some 136 graduates.
They came from the Departments of
Business and Finance, Information System, Computing, Communications
and Computer System Engineering, Electrical Power and Building, Civil
Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
One of the recipients of the Higher
National Diploma in Information Systems was the daughter of His Royal
Highness Prince Sufri Bolkiah, Princess Muhdiyatul Bolqiah.
Seven graduates from different
departments of ITB received their awards of best students. They were
from Computing, Business and Finance, Communications and Computer
System Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and two from extra
curriculum activities.
At the function, the Crown Prince
also consented to receive a souvenir. To bless the event, a Doa
Selamat was read.
More than 300 students have been
selected to undergo various courses commencing in July this year. It
will be the largest intake taken since ITB was established in 1986. -- Courtesy of Radio
