Citizens support territory claim
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Muhammad Yasin

More citizens came out in the open to fully support the efforts made by His Majesty's Government in claiming its territory Limbang from Malaysia. This time an 80-year-old man recalled his memory that the Limbang issue had been raised by the former ruler, the late Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien III in 1972.

Muhammad Yasin bin Abdul Rahman said the Malaysian Limbang and Lawas districts were once part of Brunei Darussalam territory.

"May I remind the population and to those concerned that the late Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien III once said in a Titah that there was no border between Brunei Darussalam and Limbang, and so the district is actually owned by this country.

"The unresolved issue is actually for us and our future generation to carry out until it is successful and Limbang and Lawas are returned to us," he said.

Muhammad Yasin said the rakyat in the country should treat the matter as a national issue.

"Everyone must be committed in carrying out the wish of the late Sultan who wanted to see that the claim initiated by him was in the same form," he added

"The outcome of the claim should not disappoint the population of Brunei Darussalam," he said.

He said on behalf of the population he thanked His Majesty's Government for its efforts and commitment in trying to negotiate the return of Limbang and Lawas to Brunei Darussalam.

He said the population stood behind His Majesty's Government in its attempt to negotiate the return of its territories from Malaysia.

"I and the population of this country are confident on the way our government handles the issue," he concluded.

Yesterday a similar pledge was made by the president of Parti Perpaduan Kebangsaan Brunei (PPKB) Hj Mohd Hatta bin Hj Zainal Abidin.
