Stressed-out mischief maker awaits
sentencing
By Rol Ezam
Some people who are stressed would
usually just undergo therapy or exercise, but a 56-year-old local man
decided to damage property instead. For the mischief he had committed,
the defendant, Pengiran Hj Mohd Ibrahim was brought to the Magistrates
Court yesterday where he is facing eight charges, which he pleaded
guilty to all.
However he was not sentenced
yesterday pending the statement of facts to be read out to him on
Wednesday (June 4) at 2pm.
It was an application made by Pg Isa
Pg Hj Aliuddin, who stood on for the Public Prosecutor to prepare the
facts of the case. The presiding magistrate granted the application
and released the man on $5,000 court bail or one local surety.
If failed, he will be remanded at the
Jerudong Prison till the mention date next week, Pg Isa said.
He pleaded guilty to committing
mischief by causing wrongful damages to 147 rolls of several brands of
tissues, estimated cost $777.10, belonging to Mabohai Supasave.
Pg Isa said the defendant committed
the offence on March 22 this year at about 3.30 pm.
He then pleaded guilty to committing
mischief to the facial tissue and sanitary pads, estimated cost $450,
belonging to Hua Ho Supermarket. He committed the offence five days
later after he committed the first crime, at the same time.
At the same supermarket, he also
admitted to committed mischief to swimming trunks, estimated cost
$316.50, on April 16 at about 4:15 pm, Pg Isa said.
He also pleaded guilty to committing
mischief by causing wrongful damages to five cars model Daihatsu Coure,
Nissan Presea, Nissan Laurel, Toyota Corolla and Mercedez Benz E320,
estimated cost $44,635.75.
Pg Isa said the defendant committed
the said offences on three different occasions, and two offences he
committed on a same day, at the parking space at Jalan Kianggeh,
infront of the Bangunan Wisma Ali Akbar, in the vicinity of Aneka Rasa
restaurant Kiulap parking space, in Kg Kianggeh and YSHHB basement car
park.
All the offences committed by the
defendant are an offence punishable under section 427 of the Penal
Code (Cap 22).
Pg Isa explained the penalty under
that section is imprisonment for a term which may extend to 5 years
and whipping of not less than 2 strokes.
But considering of the defendant's
age, section 258 (c) Criminal Code Procedure will be used. Under that
section, no whipping shall be punished on the defendant, as he is more
than 50 years of age, added Pg Isa yesterday.
