A total of 113 foreign workers from
Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, India and the Philippines were
inspected during a raid on Wednesday night by the Kuala Belait
Immigration Enforcement officials. Five Thais and two Indian workers
were issued with a special pass after failing to produce documents
during the ambush, pertaining to their stay in Brunei.
The raid codename "Operasi
Benteras 29" was conducted by 12 KB Immigration officials led by
Chief Immigration Officer Awg Sulaiman bin Hj Hidup.
Five rented houses and working
quarters in Kg Sg Tali, Kg Sg Bakong, Kg Sg Bakong Selatan in Lumut
and Jalan Jaya Negara in KB were targeted during the raid which
started at 10.30pm and ended at 1am.
The operation was to conduct
inspection at the residence and rental houses of foreign workers, to
ensure that they did not breach the Immigration Act and Rules
following previous arrest for offences such as overstaying, runaway
workers and other related offences.
