A thief who had broken into a
neighbour's barrack in Seria and stole electronic items such as a
computer and assessories, and also took his sweet time stealing an
emergency light, food slicer and iron, was sent to three months in
prison by the Kuala Belait Magistrate's Court yesterday. Ak Bungsu bin
Pg Talip, 27, had admitted going back and forth three times from the
barrack to his house nearby so he could load and retain the stolen
properties.
Facts of the case stated that on
April 16 this year, the defendant was on his way home from his
friend's house in the neighbourhood of Lorong 3 Selatan, when he came
across an empty barrack.
The defendant, who had two previous
conviction of theft, was tempted to enter the empty barracks and he
proceeded by taking out the louvres and gain entry through the window,
told police prosecuting officer Senior Inspector Hjh Norputemah binte
Hj Puteh.
In the living room, he dismantled the
computer and further took a codeless phone and other items. The
defendant then went back to his house nearby to sleep.
A report was then lodged by the owner
and police investigation with the assistance of the Narcotics Control
Bureau led to the arrest of the defendant.
When police came to the complainant's
house, they found 3 fingerprint impressions, the court was told. When
the finger impressions were brought for screening, the compression of
the impressions matched the defendant's fingerprint records.
The defendant yesterday faced a
serious charge of theft under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which
carries a maximum jail term of 7 years.
