UBD To Set Up Centre For Global
Marketing Of Islamic Products
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A centre for Islamic Banking and Finance Management
will be set up soon at Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
Dr Haji Ismail, UBD's
Vice-Chancellor, told RTB's business focus that the setting up of the
centre would provide a niche on Islamic products which could be
marketed globally and internationally.
This will lead to the effort of the
government in making the country as a regional and international
Islamic financial centre.
According to Dr Haji Ismail, who is
also an economist, subjects such as Islamic Insurance and Securities
have already been taught as a minor subject at the university.
He said Islamic products are among
several areas where Brunei can offer in creating a niche market for
local entrepreneurs to compete regionally and globally.
Dr Hajj Ismail also suggested that
entrepreneurs should also tap the country's unique and rich
bio-diversity resources in creating the niche market where herbal
products such as medicine and perfume can be produced.
"It is now up to the
entrepreneurs to think on what type of business they want to venture
in or expand in capturing regional or global markets," he said.
He added that new dynamic enterprises
contribute to economic development in several ways; as an important
channel to convert innovative ideas into economic opportunities, as
the basis for competitiveness through the revitalization of social and
productive networks, as a source of new employment, and as a way to
increase productivity. -- Courtesy of Radio
