PPKB supports plan to reclaim
Limbang

One of Brunei Darussalam's two
political parties, the Parti Perpaduan Kebangsaan Brunei (PPKB) issued
its second consecutive statement yesterday supporting the government's
efforts in claiming its territory Limbang from Malaysia.
Awg Hj Mohd Hatta bin Hj Zainal
Abidin, its president said PPKB felt that the courageous move made by
the government must be seen positively being Brunei Darussalam an
independent, sovereign and democratic nation.
"The claim on Limbang is not a
new issue. A similar claim to the former Sarawak Chief Minister Tun
Abdul Rahman Yakub was also made during the reign of the previous
ruler, Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien III," he said.
He also praised the Malaysian
government for submitting a proposal or formula to be taken into
consideration.
However PPKB hoped the Brunei
government would scrutinise the formula before submitting its
agreement towards finding a solution, he said.
"Any result or agreement to the
formula must take into account its' significance to the population and
the nation. This is because the population would be in the frontline
receiving any risks as a result of any agreement.
"However the population should
be confident and feel secure on the ability of the Brunei government
in handling the issue," he said.
Therefore, he said there was no
reason for Malaysia to show its reluctance in giving back Limbang to
Brunei Darussalam and continues its present cordial relationship.
He added PPKB hoped the issue can
dealt amicably by making various references to local historians.
