Association Of The Blind Hold
Koran Reading Contest

Begawan - The country's Association for the Blind yesterday
held a Koran Reading and Menghafaz Ayat-Ayat Lazim contest.
The guest of honour was the Special
Duties Officer at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dato
Paduka Awang Haji Metussin.
The winner was Awang Kamarulzaman bin
Haji Mohammad Salleh.
The 19 year-old champion attended his
Koran lessons at the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Tahfiz
Al-Koran for ten years.
He is capable of memorising three
chapters of the holy book.
The winner in the female category was
Dayangku Nor Sufizah binti Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar.
The 17-year-old champion is a Form
Four student at the Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Rashidah Secondary
School in Lumut.
She took up the Al-koran lessons from
a house helper.
She also received support and
encouragement from her family and her schoolteachers.
The winner in the Ayat-Ayat Lazim
category for male contestants was Haji Asmad bin Pengarah Mukim Haji
Naim while the winner in the female category was Siti Noralam Binti
Haji Tuan.
The country's Association for the
Blind was formed on the January 17, 2001 and has more than 30 members.
