Her Majesty Awards Women At Special Gathering

Bandar Seri Begawan - Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha yesterday consented to attend a special mass gathering for women marking Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.'s birthday anniversary.

On arrival at the International Convention Centre, Her Majesty was greeted by the co-chairperson of the ceremony, Pengiran Anak Datin Hajah Masna and the executive committee members of the organising committee.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources and the Women Council of Brunei jointly coordinated the function.

Also present at the ceremony were Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Saadatul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuruul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Azemah Nimatul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Her Royal Highness Princess Amal Umi Kalthom Al-Islam and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Noor Ehsani,

The ceremony began with Dayang Hajah Aminah reading the Al-Quran and Dayang Zuratul Aini delivering its definition.

The co-chairperson, Pengiran Anak Datin Hajah Masna in her welcoming remarks said the women mass gathering this year symbolised the unity of all women in the country toward strengthening good friendship of ummah as well as creating a lifestyle based on Islam.

A religious forum was held focusing on women's general role towards creating knowledgeable nationals based on divine revelation. The panellists were the acting director of planning, development and research, Ministry of Education, Pengiran Hajah Hairani and deputy dean one the sultan Saji Omar Ali Saifuddin islamic education institute Dr Hajah Masnon.

The presentation of 'bakti hijrah khas wanita' awards was the highlight of the ceremony which was presented by Her Majesty the Raja Isteri. The first recipient to receive the award was 69-year- old, Dayang Hajah Masiah, a mother of 11 children and was born in Tutong. She is the mother to Hajah Aminah, the 2002 winner of the international Al-Quran reading competition in Kuala Lumpur. Dayang Hajah Masiah was selected in recognition of her devotion in bringing up all of her children even though she herself is uneducated. She has also been awarded as an exemplary mother during the Hijriah celebration in Tutong District in 1998.

The second recipient of the award was Pengiran Hajah Meah. The 79-year- old mother of eight was born in Kampong Kianggeh. She is now residing in Belait with her husband. She was also awarded as an exemplary mother during the Hijrah 1421 by Belait District office for mother with informal education. The award of 'Bakti Hijrah Khas Wanita" was given with the consent of His Majesty, the Sultan and Yang Dipertuan Negara Brunei. Each recipient received B$10,000 dollars cash, a certificate of appreciation, tickets to performing the Umrah, free first class medical and health treatment at any government health centre as well as other souvenirs.

The Dikir Asyaraqal was performed by a combined team from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources as well as Women Council.

Datin Dayang hajah Maznah led the Doa Selamat.

Before leaving the ceremony, Her Majesty Raja Isteri also consented to receive greeting from executive committee members of the organizer. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
