Jail terms await thieving friends
By Malai FadleyRizal
Two friends who had just met were
brought to court yesterday where Chief Magistrate Dk Rostaina Pg Hj
Duraman sentenced the 33-year-old man to six months' imprisonment and
his 17-year-old associate to one month's jail after both pleaded
guilty to committing theft. Mohd Zefri and his young accomplice, Hj
Mohd Redwan were charged with stealing a television and a VCD player
from a contractor's quarters in Kg Madang.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Hjh Najwa Hj
Abd Majid submitted to the court that the two felons had entered the
container-turned-home through the front door that was left unlocked
during the time of the incident.
"I wanted to sell the stolen
items to buy cigarettes and some other stuff," said Mohd Zefri
when questioned by the Chief Magistrate during the hearing on what he
had intended to do with the stolen items.
The former army personnel has
previous convictions of drugs, theft and an extortion case, which the
court couldn't ignore when taking into consideration his sentencing.
Meanwhile, Hj Mohd Redwan told the
court that he committed theft because he didn't have any money.
