Heart Surgery At JPMC Seen As Big
Step For Brunei
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The establishment of Gleneagles, JPMC Sendirian
Berhad, is seen as a big step for Brunei as a developing country, in
terms of providing treatment for heart diseases.
The Director General of Medical
Service, Dr Haji Affendy, said that such treatment is now available at
the Gleneagles JPMC and this will ease the patient and the doctors
involved as it expedites treatment process.
Patients requiring non-invasive
treatment, which is primary and secondary care like the stress-test
and Echocardiogram, will continue to be given at the RIPAS hospital
while those needing invasive treatment that is endogram coronary heart
surgery and angioplasty will from now on be sent to the Gleneagles,
JPMC.
This is especially so when there are
patients requiring invasive treatment urgently, so time factor is
crucial here.
Doctors and cardiologists from RIPAS
hospital are working hand-in hand with specialists from Gleneagles
JPMC.
The Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at the
RIPAS Hospital has been around since the 80's.
It was strengthened further with the
opening of the cardiology department in the 90's.
There are cases, though rare, where
blocked veins leading to the heart need to be attained to urgently.
Undergoing surgery like the
open-heart surgery and angioplasty locally has its advantage too.
There is no difference in terms of
treatment given to patients from those underwent surgery overseas.
Another factor is the moral support
from members of the patient's family, present throughout the surgery.
