Two Prostitutes And Their Pimp Go To Jail

Bandar Seri Begawan - The two Thai prostitutes apprehended over the weekend were sentenced to two months in prison each, while their fellow countryman was sent to jail for four months by the Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Montahthit Pianoi and Orana Luamlam were charged with soliciting for the purpose of prostitution.

Thongwan Khun Mee was charged with knowingly living in part on the earnings of the two women. under the Women and Girls Protection Act.

The prosecutor, DPP Hjh Najwa Hj Abdul Majid revealed in court that the anit-vice squad from Gadong raided a room at a hotel in Jerudong where they found Monthathit naked on the bed and a towel-clad man believed to be her client.

Monthathit admitted that the officers discovered that she had obtained $50 from her alleged client.

They also found money amounting to $231 belonging to her and items related to prostitution in the same room.

Meanwhile, Orana was in another room when she was apprehended and the officers found a man also believed to be her client in the room. The officers found items related to prostitution and also $50 cash.

Both of them were later questioned and admitted to the officers that their clients picked them up somewhere at a shop in Kg Kilanas and they had proceeded to the hotel.

They were earlier transported to the shop by Thongwan Khun Mee whom they would pay $5 after receiving their earnings. They admitted to receiving payment of $50 from each of their clients.

Meanwhile, Thongwan was apprehended at a junction in the village when he was waiting for the two women to transport them back.

He admitted to receiving money from earnings of the two women as transport money.

The prosecution stated that the two women have been in Brunei for thirteen days on a social visit pass while Thongwan have been in the Sultanate for four years. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
