Local Fined $1,200 For Employing Foreigners

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 51-year-old local was fined $1,200 by the Magistrates' Court yesterday when he pleaded guilty to employing a foreigner who was on a social visit pass and another who was on an employment pass under the sponsorship of someone else.

Abd Khalid Abd Latip who owns a business handling catering and janitorial services as well as the import and export of foodstuffs said he also operates a canteen.

Immigrations officers inspected Abd Khalid's canteen and found two of his workers contravening the immigration regulations.

According to Immigrations prosecuting officer Moharefandi Hj Md Tahir, the two workers, Malaysian Teo Yeu Sang and Filipino Janet Matriz Josef admitted during investigations to working at the canteen as a cook and a waitress. They were both compound fines of $500 each.
