Storm Wreaks Havoc In Kuala Belait

Kuala Belait - Strong
winds accompanied by driving rain that lashed Kuala Belait briefly
Monday afternoon uprooted seven trees and blew away roofs in Seria, Sg
Liang and Labi.
The Kuala Belait Fire Services
Department received nine calls from people who sought emergency
assistance due to the brief storm.
Norhim bin Hj Matnor, living in Kg
Pandan Lima Housing, had the roof of his double-storey brick house
blown off and a pillar collapsed.
After the winds, a heavy rain
followed causing water to enter two of his rooms. Norhim estimated
damage at $20,000.
The Fire Service Department also
received another call from a man with a similar complaint from the
same housing area. The roof of his house was too was blown off.
The seven trees that were uprooted
which blocked the roads causing traffic jams.
Meanwhile, Radio Television Brunei
reports strong
winds and heavy rain has flooded several areas in the country and
uprooted trees.
In the Belait District, a house at
the Kampong Pandan Housing Scheme had parts of its roof blown away.
The house belongs to Awang Nurhim bin
Haji Muhd Noor. The incident happened around 3pm yesterday.
Fortunately no one was hurt although
most of Awang Nurhim's family members were in the house at that time.
The strong wind blew away the roof of
the kitchen and hit other parts of the roof causing rain to pour into
the house.
Awang Nurhim's wife Dayang Kamariah
binti Zaini she took her children downstairs to safety when she sensed
danger. --
