Runaway Thai Convicted Of
Consuming 'Syabu'

Begawan - the Magistrate's Court on Saturday fined a
40-year-old Thai national $1,500 or three months imprisonment in
default when he pleaded guilty to consuming a Class A controlled drug,
Methylamphetamine.
According to the Narcotics Control
Bureau Prosecutor, the defendant, the Immigration officers caught
Jarun Chawiang twelve days ago at a house in Kampong Sinarubai, on
suspicion of having an invalid working pass.
The officers then found a plastic
containing several pills believed to be controlled drugs and a
modified apparatus believed to be used for consuming drugs.
Therefore, the Immigration officers
contacted several officers from NCB to come to the said scene, the NCB
prosecutor said.
Further searches conducted by the NCB
officers, uncovered a plastic packet containing five clear straws
containing a crystal substances inside a grey bag marked 'PRADA',
believed to be controlled drugs.
The NCB officers then said upon
investigations, it was found that all the items had no relation to the
defendant.
However, on the same day he was
arrested, his urine sample was taken at the NCB office and later the
next day his urine sample was sent to the Scientific Laboratory for
analysis.
Upon analysis, results showed that
the defendant's urine sample tested positive for the class A
controlled drug, Methylamphetamine, the NCB prosecutor told the court.
