Anthrax Scare Was Only Baby Napkin
By Liza Mohd

Kuala Belait - A parcel labeled "Anthrax" that was found in Seria Post Office on April 26, which led to panic and chaos, but actually contained an old baby napkin that was already used for wiping.

Though it was apparent that it was only meant to create panic among the officials and customers present at the time, a test was still conducted on the baby napkin to ensure that there wasn't any bacterial reaction.

The test conducted by the Bandar Seri Begawan Scientific Laboratory confirmed that there was no bacterial reaction and hence the "Anthrax" episode was just a cruel and distasteful joke.

This was stated by the Kuala Belait District Service Department that declared that the parcel labelled "Anthrax" found in the Seria Post Office was only a hoax.

The hoax led to 40 fire fighters including the Hazmat squad team from BSB, police and medical staff rush to the scene.

Fifteen people comprising of 13 Seria Post Office staff and two customers were quarantined and were not allowed to leave the premises until the medical team performed swab tests in line with procedures to determine whether they had come in contact with Anthrax. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
