Radio fans, hoping to establish a fan
club, converged in their large numbers at a private house in Jalan
Mulaut last Saturday night to attend the Radio Fanatic Night function.
Aficionados of local radio stations were there too. Organisers were
very pleased over the large turnout, saying that the formation of a
Radio Fanatics Club was now a possibility.
Nearly a hundred young radio fans,
mostly teenagers, attended. Some of them were even accompanied by
their parents who supported their children's endeavours.
A father said that he did not mind
his children being "addicted" to radio programmes so long as
it does not interfere with their studies.
Sally, representing the organisers,
said that she was surprised over the large turnout.
"Plans of organising the
get-together began five days earlier and were mooted during phone
sessions of radio programmes.
"I was definitely touched when
radio fans answered the call for the get-together and even willingly
donated $5 per person towards food and other charges.
"This occasion is fortified
proof that radio fan support their local radio DJs
whole-heartedly," she went on to say.
She said those who participated in
radio programmes such as Tolak Satu Ambil Satu (Push One Take
Another), a talent assessment were invited to the event so they can
see each other face to face and develop friendship.
"The fans recognise each other
through their 'voices' when participating in talent contests at radio
station but tonight they will be able to get to know one another.
Apart from the radio DJs attending
the event, guest artistes such as Rosman Masri, Daud Iskandar, Milin
and Kumpulan I N V. Crescendo the local acapella group (singing
without being accompanied by musical instruments) belted out a song or
two.
Karaoke competitions were also
participated by radio fans as well as new talents such as Amy and Alai
Niz.
