Call for ban on sexy ads in Manila

Manila - Politicians and police officers in the Philippines are calling for a ban on sexy billboard adverts because they cause traffic jams.

Councillor Victor Ferrer, who lives in Manila, wants fines and jail sentences introduced for anyone putting revealing adverts on the city's roads.

He says drivers stop to look at the posters causing a build up of traffic.

"Obscene pictures in the city's main thoroughfares are not only a nuisance to the public, but also a road hazard since they distract motorists," said Councillor Ferrer.

The move is supported by police officials, who believe the ban would help ease traffic congestion.

Police officer Renato Sungo said its mainly men who stop to have a look: "Male motorists usually slow down or stop whenever they pass by." -- Associated Press
