The Mosque At The Heart Of All, Says Religious Ministry Official

Tutong - The mosque is the most significant landmark and a symbol of strength and solidarity of the Muslim Ummah since the time of prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.

Mosque is not only a place for performing prayers and other religious activities, but it also functions in a vast role at the heart of social integration and administrative activities.

The Permanent Secretary at the Religious Ministry, Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Yusof, was speaking at a function in which he presented prizes to winners of the photography competition for mosques in the country.

Last night's event took place at the Kampong Tanjong Maya Mosque in the tutong district.

Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Yusof went on to say that the mosque, as a centre of learning is deemed the appropriate place in gaining religious knowledge.

As such, various suitable approaches relevant to religion should be taken into account so as not to go against the teachings of Islam.

The permanent secretary also stressed that Islam requires that mosques should always be glorified with prayers, Zikirs and prudence ceremonies and that all religious activities should be of benefit to Islam and its followers.

Some $810 being proceeds collected from the photography competition was donated to the Palestinain Humanitarian Aid fund. The cheque was presented by the president of Pertama, Awang Haji Ismail Haji Parun, to the permanent secretary at the ministry of religious affairs.

Winners of the photography competition for mosques - received their prizes presented by Pengiran Dato Haji Yussof. The competition was divided into two categories.

One which was opened to participants in the Tutong district only and the other at national level. Awang Shari Haji Junaidi clinched first place in the district level whilst Awang Haji Yakub Bin Ham Abdul Rahman was adjudged winner in the national category.

The selected photographs will be displayed at the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah foundation in the capital for three days commencing on the 20th of this month. The photographs featured the unique designs and architecture of mosques in the country. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
