Navy's cleaning campaign to ward
off SARS

cleaning campaign
The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) joined
the nation's fight against the global Severe Acute Respiratory
Syndrome (SARS) epidemic, by initiating a one-day anti-SARS cleaning
campaign yesterday, as a preventive measure. All RBN personnel as well
as civilians working with RBN worked hand in hand together in the
one-day campaign to promote awareness among RBN personnel and their
families on the deadly virus that has claimed more than 600 lives
worldwide. With a clear message encapsulated in the campaign,
'cleanliness and top priority on hygiene', it is also to bring
awareness on the importance of a clean environment to fight SARS, as
the saying goes, 'prevention is better than cure'.
They are all aware of the dangers
posed by SARS and are taking all kinds of measures such as monitoring
the health of personnel, especially those who have gone abroad for
courses. The one-day campaign yesterday was divided into two phases,
whereby the first phase was to clean their respective departments, as
well as their naval ships.
The second phase involved cleaning
the married quarters and barracks. A talk on SARS by a medical
professional to educate all personnel of RBN, is expected to take
place in the near future.
