Ugly side too in slimming products
The influx of the many slimming
products over the counter today reflects that the people in Brunei are
becoming more aware of the benefits with weight loss. This high demand
also shows that the slimming business is becoming lucrative. However,
the question now is, are all slimming products found in Brunei deemed
safe?
The slimming market is growing as
more people are aware about their health. The urge to improve one's
physique and the fitness that goes with it is driving one to go all
out to achieve that goal. Smart entrepreneurs used this notion in
create business that is fast becoming a profitable venture.
Manufacturers and suppliers are making use of advertisements to induce
demand for these products.
Putting film stars, muscular sports
personalities and beauty title holders as the benchmark for a better
look for our consumer are just some of the many advertising
strategies. Consumers are bombarded with video clippings day in, day
out. The war to gain the hearts and mind of consumers are also fought
in the print media and billboard advertising.
The RTB consumer research team has
conducted a survey on why people go on diet. The polls show that for
many people the main reason is health. For others it may be an
emotional decision. Men and women are dissatisfied with their body
shape. They want to be pleased with what they see in the mirror.
However, some desperate consumers turn to slimming products for a
quick way to solve their diet problems.
The concern right now for consumers
is whether slimming products such as slimming tea, pills or cream over
the counter deemed safe. RTB consumer researches found out that the
assistants are non-medical personnel.
This worries consumers because wrong
slimming products may be dispensed since only pharmacists and pharmacy
technicians can do so in hospitals and retail pharmacies? Trouble
arises when these over-the-counter drugs are not taken under proper
medical supervision and also taken indiscriminately ignoring possible
side effects.
RTB researchers has contacted several
private clinics for comment on this type of slimming products, as
noted by one of the doctors who declined to be on television. He said
some slimming products contain a diuretic making a person urinate
more, thus giving the illusion of losing weight. Others contain
laxatives which taken in excess can caused loss of electrolytes,
making the body dehydrated and weak.
Medical experts now unanimously agree
that consumers should all eat less fat in their daily diet and do more
exercise rather than relying on slimming products.
Going on diet without food is the
worst thing to do when consumers are trying to lose weight. A person
needs to eat three meals a day at regular intervals to keep their
metabolic rate buoyant and the body in believing it is not starving.
Motivate yourself if you have decided
to start losing weight, draw a clear picture of why you want to lose
weight. Slimming products are not a long-term plan towards looking and
feeling good, prevention is!! It is better to eat healthily and
exercise regularly. Remember you should eat to live, and not live to
eat.
