With the near completion of the Egret
project northeast of Brunei Shell Petroleum Fairley field, the
country's gas production will increase. The Egret project, specially
targeted at gas production, is aiming at 'first gas' by August 2003.
The major progress of the project
over the past few weeks were the sailing and installation of the Egret
jacket, stated Awg Shari bin Ahmad, Egret project leader and contract
holder, from BSP's West Engineering Department.
The jacket had sailed along Kuala
Belait River on May 5 and three days later was lowered to its
location. Piling work to secure the jacket to its location had been
completed and is expected to receive the topside (deck and equipment)

The project aims to commission the
platform by mid-June when drilling can commence.
The produced gas will be gathered at
a new platform, EGDP01, transported by a new pipeline to Ampa 6, and
transferred to Brunei LNG plant at Lumut (BLNG).
'Sea Horizon', a heavy lift and
pipeline lay barge and contracted via BSP Service Campaign Operations,
SCO, laid the 25 km x 20-inch pipeline.
A local company, TEB, supported by
Technip Far East's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, conducted the
engineering work.
Construction was done by Adinin Works
Engineering (AWE), a wholly owned Brunei construction company, which
fabrication of the jacket (substructure) and topside (deck and
equipment), were conducted in Brunei Shell Petroleum's construction
yard in Kuala Belait.
