UBD Language Centre Enhanced Through Book Donations

Bandar Seri Begawan - the Language Centre of the University of Brunei has widened its collection of books and reference materials through donations of foreign embassies in the country.

The latest collection of books came from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brunei. In his speech, the office representative, Mr James Chu, said that students who are interested in the past history or present development of Taiwan may use them either as reference or for reading.

On hand to receive the books was the vice chancellor of UBD, Dr Haji Ismail. A total of 15 books written in the Mandarin language and one in English titled 'Island in the stream' are now available for public use. The books provide profound information about the history, scenery, folksongs, customs and food of Taiwan. Taiwan is a highly developed country that was a rural economy 50 years ago and now a strong and dynamic industrial country ranked as the 14th largest trading country and the 19th largest economy in the world today. The ceremony was held this morning at University Brunei in Tungku. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
