Highlighted
Bandar
Seri Begawan - The Health Ministry today celebrated the Nurses
and Midwives International Day in remembrance of the founder of
nursing, Florence Nightingale. The highlight of the celebration was
the donation of blood by nurses at the Raja Issuer Pengiran Anak
Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital.
The Director General of Medical
Services, Doctor Triaji Affendy, officially opened the international
day. At this function, the chief guest also viewed a display of
photographs highlighting the noble occupation.
The array of photos provides a
pictorial viewpoint about the work nurses are engaged in. The theme of
this year's celebration is "Nurses Fighting Aids Stigma, Caring
For All." The exhibition is displayed at the lobby of Ripas
Hospital.
It displays relevant information on
the role and responsibility played by nurses in caring for patients.
Many other programs are also arranged to mark the day, and the focus
is on the fight against Aids stigma.
Stigma or Isolation of HIV/Aids
carriers seemed to have an effective medication treatment. Until the
Stigma or discriminations on HIV/Aids patients is overcome, people's
fear would not lessen.
The international nursing counsel
demanded the celebration focus on reducing the stigma and
discriminations on HIV/Aids carriers.
Dr Haji Affendy explained the
importance of enhancing the quality of the nursing career. He said
caring for patients requires teamwork, with nurses forming the
backbone of the whole process.
As in other countries, opportunities
exist here for nurses to enhance their professionalism. Some nurses
are, for example, specialising in a specific field such as endoscopies
where they can proceed to become an endoscopies specialist in the
future. -- Courtesy
