Two Muslim Men Fined Over Tiger
Beer

Begawan - A 34-year-old local man and a 35-year-old permanent
resident were each fined $400 or two months' imprisonment in default
yesterday when they pleaded guilty to their respective charge of
smuggling beer.
Roslee Hj Suami pleaded guilty to
possessing nine cans of Tiger Beer, while Harun Hj Muhammad pleaded
guilty to smuggling eight cans of Tiger beer in his car. They were
sentenced by Chief Magistrate Dk Rostaina Pg Hj Duraman in the
Magistrate's Court.
According to the Customs and Excise
Prosecutor, Hj Ahmad Hj Abd Rahman, eleven days ago, a group of
Customs Preventive Officers conducted an operation in a bid to
eliminate the illegal selling of liquor near Simpang 15 in Jalan
Gadong.
In the operation, the car belonging
to Harun was stopped after the two men were suspected of buying liquor
in the area.
The officers found the beer in the
back seat of the car, Hj Ahmad said.
Roslee confessed that the nine cans
of beer belonged to him, while the rest of the beer belonged to Harun.
Hj Ahmad said both of the defendants
brought the beer for their personal consumption and bought the liquor
from a man, believed to be a foreigner, named Basil at a flat at
Simpang 126 in Kg Tumasek.
All items seized were ordered
