A local entrepreneur was recently
awarded a plaque of appreciation in Queensland, Australia for his
contribution towards trade between Brunei Darussalam and Australia. Hj
Mohd Hussyn bin Hj Abd Rahman, the managing director of Hussyn Rahman
Enterprise Co, received the plaque from the Queensland Primary
Industries Minister Henry Palaszczuk at a recent fair, Beef Australia
2003.
Hj Hussyn orders his livestock in
Queensland and brings them to Brunei.
The minister said his visit to the
Beef Australia 2003 was to motivate Australian exporters as well as
push for increased beef exports to other importing nations including
Brunei.
In Rockhampton, Hj Hussyn met the
minister at the Beef Australia 2003 which was part of Queensland Trade
Mission.
"Hj Hussyn's attendance at the
Beef Australia 2003 demonstrates his strong personal interest in our
beef industry and what we have to offer but it also shows the
increasing potential of our beef in Brunei Darussalam,"
Palaszczuk told Hj Hussyn.
Hj Hussyn has participated in four
incoming Queensland Government trade missions and the records showed
that he had hosted six missions to Brunei Darussalam led by the
Queensland Department of Primary Industries.
Brunei Darussalam imports annually
from Queensland, Australia 22,000 heads of cattle, 10,000 goats, 1000
sheep and 200 camels.
Hussyn Rahman Enterprise Co alone
imports 6,000 heads of cattle per annum from Australia.
"The triennial expositions at
Rockhampton are an ideal trade for international delegations because
it showcases every aspect of the industry from paddock to plate,"
he added.
Australian livestock has seen a
tremendous increase in demand in recent years after the outbreak of
the mad cow diseases or bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in 30
European countries a few years back.
