First Open Heart Surgery Patient
Recovers Well
Jerudong - The
first patient undergoing open-heart surgery in Brunei on Saturday,
Dayang Bungsu binti Hashim is recovering well.
She is now being monitored at the
Intensive Care Unit of the Gleneagles JPMC Cardiac Centre in Jerudong.
Dayang Bungsu had her Endotracheal
Tube taken off from her mouth at about 9.30 this morning, about
sixteen hours after operation.
According to the Chief Surgeon, Dr.
Rieda Menshawe El Oakley, the operation went well. So much so that
Dayang Bungsu was already able to sit up and move slightly, unlike for
other patients who had to remain bed-ridden much longer.
This is also partly due to the latest
state-of-art medical technologies available at the centre, Dr. Rieda
said that Dayang Bungsu is now fully stabilized and that there were no
complications.
At about 11am yesterday, Dayang
Bungsu was able to sit up for her Chest X-Ray. She will spend another
two days in the Intensive Care Unit before being moved to a regular
ward.
Bandar Seri Begawan - The spirit of
working together voluntarily Or 'Gotong Royong' is still alive among
the Bruneians.
It was demonstrated today through
efforts on building a new bridge at the Klamasi Muslim Cemetery in
Kampong Kasat Mukim Lumapas yesterday.
The voluntary works also include the
cleaning of the cemetery. More than 38 feet long and 12 feet wide
bridge is to replace the old one. The bridge linked the Klamasi
Cemetery and Kampong Kasat.
The materials used in building the
bridge were contributions from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The project, which was organised by
the Kampong Kasai and coordinated by the Brunei-Muara District Office
cost about $5,000 from the budget allocated by the ministry of home
affairs.
More than 130 departments officers
and staff under the ministry of home affairs, Kampong residents as
well as the Brunei Religious Islamic Council joined in the voluntary
work and was led by the ministry's Permanent Secretary, Dato Awang
Haji Abdul Rahman.
The construction works, which began
last week, were done in stages.
