No More Talk From BruneiTalk As Site Mysteriously Vanishes

Bandar Seri Begawan - WWW.BRUNEITALK.COM the underground website which targeted Brunei personalities of note causing a stir of late has mysteriously disappeared from local computer screens.

The website registered under a Mr. Steven Chan in Hong Kong in December last year shot into popularity when it posted items that mentioned local persons of some standing and made in some cases embarrassing allegations which proved to be false in a number of instances.

But no one in Brunei could track down the webmaster or the site's owners which made the sneak attacks.

It had no local office and its clandestine mode of operation created somewhat of a problem.

The website registration showed its address and registrant in Hong Kong as Information Services Limited, Room 18, New Henry House, 10 I, Central SAR 1, Hong Kong. The telephone number in Hong Kong was 85225257659.

An attempt to call that number from Brunei proved fruitless, however.

As time passed the website enjoying total unrestricted freedom became bolder by the day. The number of attacks and comments against many prominent people increased which found favour with some sections of the local community.

But about a week ago www.BruneiTalk.com seemed to have been wiped out mysteriously from Brunei computer screens.

Crying foul some viewers have protested in other local Internet sites. There has been no official explanation forthcoming so far.

However speculation is that BruNet the sole government controlled local portal blocked its access. However viewers outside Brunei could still get into the site.

But that would be counterproductive for BruneiTalk as the full effect of the site is lost to the local surfers.

Brunei regulates its locally based Internet sites under a recently passed law to prevent abuse. A strict code of Internet practice regulates webmasters.

However there was no way of enforcing that on clandestine sites whose real owners were not known or were not based in Brunei.
