Raising funds for Cambodian
Muslims
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Kg Sungai Hanching Mosque intends to position itself as an active
mosque in its donation drive towards the Cambodian Muslims
Humanitarian Fund
To demonstrate its commitment and
obligation to help the underprivileged Cambodian Muslims, the Takmir
committee of Kg Sungai Hanching Mosque will be organising three
activities at the end of May and early next month. All proceeds will
be channelled directly to the Cambodian Muslims Humanitarian Fund. The
first activity would be a walkathon event on May 31, which will
commence at 7 am.
Participants will gather at the
mosque car park and donations will be collected before the
commencement of the walkathon.
The secretary of the mosque's Takmir
committee, Hj Mohd Zaide bin Hj Damit urged mosque communities and
public members to support the event to demonstrate the people's
determination to lend a helping hand to the underprivileged.
The walkathon, according to Hj Mohd
Zaide, will be officiated by Dato Paduka Hj Suyoi bin Hj Osman, the
Deputy Minister of Education, who will be the guest of honour.
"Apart from walking in the name
of donation, we would also be walking in the name of physical
well-being as well as strengthening friendship and harmony amongst
participants," he went on to say. "A doctor will also be
present to provide free medical checkups." The other two
fund-raising activities organised by the Takmir committee will be held
simultaneously on June 1. A garage sale will take place at the
mosque's compound throughout the day while a charity banquet would
also be organised.
"Those who wish to contribute
personal belongings towards the garage sale may do so," he added.
More information can be obtained from Hj Zaini bin Hj Karim at the
mosque.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Takmir
committee, Pg Hj Mohammad Hafizuddin Pg Hj Bakar, the mosque's imam
urged residents living nearby the mosque to support the banquet.
The banquet will be charged at $10
per head, he said. "Forms can be obtained from officials
stationed at the mosque."
"The Takmir committee hopes the
public as well as residents living nearby the mosque would support the
fund-raising activities," he went on to say.
He added that another unrelated
activity would also be held at the mosque to support the nation's
total commitment in its drive to support the fight against the Severe
Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) virus in Brunei Darussalam.
On May 25, the Takmir committee will
be organising a cleaning campaign at the mosque
