Father of 18 charged with drug
abuse
By Malai FadleyRizal
A man with 18 children from three
wives was tried Saturday in the Magistrates' Court for two other
counts of the Misuses of Drugs Act after he had already pleaded guilty
to one count of consumption of a controlled drug. Despite his
anxiousness while being tried, Sahari Hj Tengah greeted his children
exuberantly when he was given a chance to meet his family after the
hearing in which he was tried for trafficking 24.5385 grammes of
Methylamphetamine and being in possession of 3.7064 grammes of Syabu.
During the trial, several officers
from the Narcotics Control Bureau testified in court regarding the
raid conducted at a house in Kg Pekilong Muara, Saba Darat B where
Sahari was arrested with eight others.
In the prosecution's opening speech,
DPP Suhana Hj Sudin submitted to the court that Sahari was first seen
in the attic of the said house in Kg Ayer as if he was about to jump
off to escape.
An NCB officer later arrested him at
a staircase in a storeroom which led to the attic.
During a search carried out by the
officers, they discovered three packets of crystalline substances
later analysed to be Methylamphetamine and an apparatus which was
claimed to contain traces of Methylamphetamine.
Two officers later brought Sahari to
the attic where they found two small packets of crystalline
substances, later analysed and found to contain Syabu.
Sahari's urine sample tested positive
for Syabu and he had pleaded guilty to the charge of having consumed
the drug.
It was learnt that Sahari is
currently remanded pending the next trial date where the prosecution
will continue to bring in more witnesses to prove the case.
