Another Milestone In Heart Surgery
In Brunei
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The first Percutaneous Translumina Coronary
Angioplasty (PTCA) will be performed this morning.
This is yet another first in the
medical history of Brunei.
Precutaneous Transluminal Coronary
Angioplasty (PTCA) is an established, effective therapy used to treat
blockages and blood clots in the coronary arteries.
This procedure involves the doctor
inserting and advancing a catheter with a deflated balloon at its tip
into the narrowed part of an artery. This balloon is then deflated and
the catheter removed.
The 61-year-old patient that will
undergo this treatment, Awang Haji Mustapha bin Awang Besar of Kampong
Perpindahan Lambak Kanan received a visit from the Director of
Gleneagles JPMC Sendirian Berhad, Pengiran Dato Haji Kamarulzaman.
Awang Haji Mustapha expressed his
gratitude to the government of His Majesty for making it possible to
have this treatment here in Brunei.
The cardiologist who will perform the
procedure, Dr. Michael Lim, together with his group of doctors and
nurses, will introduce new techniques incorporated with the state of
the art facilities at the Gleneagles JPMC for the patient's comfort
and to lessen any discomfort.
Alongside the first open heart
surgery conducted this morning Gleneagles JPMC Sdn Bhd is one step
closer to cementing its vision of becoming an internationally
recognized medical care provider. --
