Eighteen members from the Tiong Hua community in Kuala Belait who completed a Jawi writing course received their certificates of participation during the closing ceremony held yesterday afternoon at the Kuala Belait Dakwah Islamiah Centre. The chief guest at the function was the Assistant Director of the Dakwah Islamiah Centre, Ustazah Hjh Zasia binte Sirin.

The Chief of Dakwah KB Unit, Awg Hj Adanan bin Hj Md Jaya, in his speech stated that the eight-week Jawi writing course was first started in the year 2001 and since then, 44 participants had successfully completed the course and received their certificates of participation.

Awg Hj Adanan added that that the course was aimed at fostering closer ties between the officers of the KB Dakwah Islamiah Centre and the members of the Tiong Hua community as well to provide knowledge and experience to the participants in reading and writing Jawi.

The recent course was the third one held so far for the Tiong Hua community since the first one was launched in April, 2001.

Awg Hj Adanan further stated that the course held for the Chinese community had shown positive results as a seminar on understanding Islamic religion in Mandarin will be held May 25 at the Tiong Hua Chinese Community Business Hall in conjunction with the Maulud celebrations. It is organised by the KB Tiong Hua community

Also attending yesterday's function were the Pehin Bendahari Cina, Awg Ng Teck Hock and the KB Chief Religious Officer, Pg Hj Mustapa bin Pg Aliuddin.
