Ten thousand school children and
people have visited the Book Fair since it was launched by Dato Paduka
Awg Haji Dani Haji Ibrahim on May 2 in the International Convention
Centre. Books ranging from school textbooks to novels, magazines,
cookbooks, encyclopędia, car books and others are sold. The book fair
aims to encourage people to read more and to build the habit of
reading.
There are 70 booths selling books
while some computer companies also showcase the latest technology in
lap tops and desk tops. Some government agencies are taking part like
the History Department, Language and Literature Bureau and the Museum
Department. There are also booths selling stationeries to the
students.
In another room, serious discussion
on topics related with the language and literature has taken place in
the past days.
Some children have the opportunity to
read and discover a lot of interesting books and buy them at
affordable prices. Students are given chances to win prizes at the
Quiz in the Book Fair.
The question for the quiz is fairly
easy, and prizes are donated by the exhibitors.
Today there will be more prizes to be
grabbed as it is the last day of the book fair and the public are
welcome to join in the fun of reading books as well as in winning all
the prizes in the quiz.
Meanwhile, pre-school kids from
Jigsaw Primary School in Berakas visited the Book Fair last Friday.
The children toured the book fair
under the supervision of their teacher and watched an educational
cartoon video featuring Donald Duck and the Seven Dwarfs to teach
children words and sing along songs.
Happy faces of the children appeared
when they saw their favourite cartoon character teaching them
spelling.
Mrs Helen Chin, the principal of
Jigsaw Primary School, said by taking the children to the book fair,
it can instil the habit of reading books to them at a tender age.
The children went to the educational
toy booth of A.L.K International Sdn Bhd and were able to bring back
educational toys for building their word spelling and learning the
English language.
